When you are traveling on 13 highway through Bolivar, Missouri which is located about 23 miles north of Springfield, Missouri you will see at the Junction of U highway and 13, Smith’s Restaurant known for their giant tenderloin sandwich. Smith’s serves home-cooked food in a relaxed family atmosphere. A destination worth stopping in and having some food and do a little shopping while you are there.
What Do They Offer?
Owner, Mark Smith has recently added some new features to the restaurant such as a cheese store. Now you have many coolers full of different flavors of cheese, meat snacks, jams, jellies, and more. If you are like me, when you can find unique flavors of cheese that are not at your regular store it is definitely worth stopping and picking up a supply to hold you over to the next trip.
You will also be able to find a lot of gifts, including beanie babies, stuffed animals, a variety of chocolates, souvenirs and t-shirts. There is something there for the whole family!
My favorite when I go to smiths is the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy, macaroni and cheese and don’t forget the best thing, the roll! This is always two meals for me, but I don’t mind taking it home and having it later. I never have room for more, but sometimes I order cherry cobbler to go (shhh! don’t tell anyone). You may want to try some of their mile high pies. You can even take one home with you as the cooler to tempt you is right by the checkout.
If you catch a day that they are having their buffet, (I am told they are going to start doing this Fridays and Saturdays) you won’t be disappointed. I ordered the buffet on a Saturday; it was right before they were going to close it down, so I was a little worried about quality and quantity. Everything was fully stocked and fresh. They even extended the buffet for another hour as well. That is what I call great customer service! Every item on the buffet that I tried was right on target with taste and freshness. The fried chicken had so much flavor and was a new favorite for me.
There is always plenty of seating as they have two other sections that they can open up if needed. They also use these rooms for meetings and get-togethers if you need to rent a space for an event. Smith’s has daily specials to fit any budget, and the servings are big. I believe this is a destination that you will want to include on any trip when traveling down 13 highway.
